After Laslo Djere defeated Russian Safiullin, he clinched another victory against third-seed Borna Coric. They played a difficult match and fought for every point but the Serbian player managed to win the match at the end.
“I expected a difficult match and I was proven right. We both had our ups and downs during the match. However, I felt at ease on the tennis court. I used every opportunity I got although it was a tight match. I maintained my focus until the very end,” Laslo Djere said after the victory.
Djere doesn’t hide that he took advantage of his opponent’s mistakes at decisive moments in the second set and that that fact might have decided the winner.
“He missed some easy points and I returned to the match. Especially when he had 5:2 in the second set. However, I was aware that he only broke my serve once. When I returned, I knew how to “break” him for the second time. I reset both my mind and my focus and didn’t miss opportunities on his serve”.
The Serbian tennis player said that the support from the stands meant a lot to him.
“Spectators were great. They certainly helped me. They rooted for me, but they were also very respectful of Borna. They applauded him to show approval of some great shots he made”.
Djere has admitted that both matches he played so far were difficult matches. When asked whether he felt more confident now after he defeated the player ranked No. 21 in the world, Djere explained:
“He is a good player, an excellent competitor and hard to beat. It’s not really important to me whether he’s ranked No. 21 or No. 50 in the world”.
Djere’s next opponent will be the winner of the match between Popyrin and Molcan.
“I played with both of them in the past. I beat Popyrin twice and I won one and lost one match against Molcan. I find him more difficult as an opponent. It won’t be easy, regardless of the winner. However, I don’t play tomorrow so I’ll use the day to rest and recover and I’ll be 100% ready for the match on Friday”, Djere concluded.
