Kecmanovic: I hope to meet Nole in the semifinal

Sun 16 Apr 2023

Miomir Kecmanovic will skip the first round but he is, together with the rest of the Serbian tennis players, including Novak Djokovic, in the upper part of the draw. The first impression regarding the Srpska Open tournament of the majority of tennis players is the new appearance of the city of Banjaluka that looks fantastic despite a rainy couple of days.

Miomir Kecmanovic has shared the same impression and used this opportunity to pay compliments to the organisers of the tournament.

– Banjaluka looks fantastic. Everything is new and I’m happy to be here. I believe that good tennis will be played at this tournament.

Kecmanovic has not yet stepped onto the court and plans to do that later during the day.

– I haven’t practiced yet and I’m yet to step onto the tennis court. Clay is slow, it is difficult, but it’s something to be expected. We’ll see how it goes. I just hope it doesn’t rain.

The draw has again gathered all Serbian players in the upper part.

– To tell you the truth, I don’t find that strange. Somehow, we always end up in the same part of the draw. This time I can take a step forward; I don’t have to play against Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final, but in the semi-final. I plan to compete in Madrid and Rome after this tournament.

Kecmanovic played both in the singles and the doubles in Estoril but did not lift any trophies.

– I’m satisfied with my season on clay. I play well. I’m glad to be making better results on this surface as well and that I feel very confident. I want to continue in the same direction and play good tennis.

In Monte Carlo, Miomir Kecmanovic lost to Lorenzo Musetti in the first round 7-6 (1), 6-0. The second set was especially painful for Kecmanovic (7:6,6:0).

– What happened in Monte Carlo? I played a lot of matches, almost 11 matches, in five days. I was really exhausted back then.

The doubles competition will also be interesting for Kecmanovic. His doubles partner at the Srpska Open will be Nikola Cacic.

– Yes. I play in the doubles with Nikola Cacic. We play well together, but I ‘m yet to see whether I’ll have to be the one to “bear the brunt” of our doubles team again, Kecmanovic concluded.
